Occasionally we run across something truly unique. This time we ran across it in a greater quantity than one.

I’m talking about this 2003 Florida Marlins baseball card from their World Series win. This is not your typical bubble-gum size card but rather a full 8×11 inch card that on the one side has a picture of the trophy and a few players and on the reverse, a photo of the entire team gathered presumably at their stadium.

It’s printed on glossy finish card stock and is in near mint condition. And in fact, we have 10 of these on sale currently at eBay.

If you are a Marlins fan, or perhaps better yet – were there when they won the World Series – you will clearly be interested in this little bit of history… and a fine piece of Ephemera.

Here’s a quick Sunday morning blog article as noted in “Molovinsky on Allentown“…

In early August of 1942, Alvin Butz attempted to prevail on the Detroit Tigers minor league team not to cancel their scheduled game with The Allentown Wings, minor league team of the St. Louis Cardinals. The game was supposed to be played on August 26th on Fairview Field, currently known as Bicentennial Park. Mr. Butz was president of the ballclub at that time and was also a major contributor of the current stadium built in 1975.

If you are a baseball fan.. or an old time Allentown, PA resident as presumably Mr. Molovinsky is, this would be a great piece of Ephemera to own.

An article today in “Live Auction Talk” is about the Negro National Baseball League which offered blacks their only shot at playing organized ball in 1920.

The Negro League was a black monopoly that became the largest of its kind in the country. It was also one of the last times blacks controlled their own major league sports organizations.

On March 6, Hunt Auctions of Exton, Pa., featured a selection of photographs, posters, banners, game tickets and other ephemera from the Negro League era in its Sports Memorabilia and Cards auction.

The picture to the right is of five uniformed players of the Nashville Elite Giants from 1935 and sold at Hunt Auctions for $805.

Some other items sold were:

• Satchel Paige photograph; autographed; Paige pitching in Cleveland Indians uniform; black-and-white; 8 inches by 10 inches; $805.
• Ticket stub; National Colored All Star Baseball Game; Sept. 10, 1933; $1,265.
• Souvenir program; Negro World Series; played between Cleveland Buckeyes and New York Cubans; 1947; $1,725.
• Photographic broadside; Satchel Paige; Negro All Stars game; game between Paige’s Negro All Stars and Louisville Black Colonels; cardboard; circa 1930s; 11 inches by 17 inches; $4,485.
