Sandy Babb, over at the Quill Cottage has an interesting and informative blog today about how to best preserve your ephemera.
She starts out with this important comment:
Almost everyone has paper documents; old school drawings, income tax returns, old deeds, yellowed newspaper clippings, etc. they want to keep as mementos. The key to preserving these family treasures is proper handling and storage.
Sandy then she goes on to discuss the main culprit that causes paper to deteriorate and yellow.. and that is acid. She talks about some commercially available products that are available as a spray to neutralize the acid and slow down the aging process as well as improve storage methods. She says that while this is not a permanent solution, it can help extend the life of a document.
Sandy then goes on to describe in great detail a number of handling and storage tips to help preserve your vintage documents and photos.
If you are a collector of Ephemera or even if you just have a few important vintage family document of photographs around the house, you should give this informative article a read. I am sure you will pick up a tip or two… or at least find it a worthwhile read.
I’m Tom Murphy and thanks for helping me give Ephemera the encore it deserves.
