Tattered and Lost…

I’ve been a bit overwhelmed in the last week or so with activities… but that does not mean I have not been wandering the net a bit and uncovering some interesting Ephemera related sites.

Tattered and LostThe most recent is a site named “Tattered and Lost Ephemera“.  Unfortunately there is no indication as to the author’s name… but his articles and pictures are quite interesting.

Take for example this 1915 advertisement, found in an issue of The Country Gentleman.  It’s for the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway – which to the best of my knowledge no longer exists.

The site also tell us that “only building left from the great Exposition is the Palace of Fine Arts. None of what was built was meant to be permanent so the fact that this still exists is a wonder.

The site is also affiliated with another site named “Tattered and Lost Vernacular Photography” where we find lovely old pictures such at the one on the left.   The blogger says he has quite a few photographs of the woman in the card.  He purchased them from a drawer full of photos at an antique store.

Vernacular PhotographyShe was a very stylish woman, always nicely dressed right through her older years. From the many pictures he has determined that she loved to travel, especially aboard ship. She enjoyed all the shipboard parties. And she had red hair.  Let’s hope she had a happy Valentine’s Day.. in whatever year it may have been.

I’m Tom Murphy and thanks for helping me give Ephemera the encore it deserves.

About Tom Murphy
My name is Tom Murphy and I’m becoming more and more a full time Blogger - trying to master this new and dynamic medium called blogging. Back in the late 1990s I found the Internet and was not sure what it was.. or where it was going. I worked at the time for IBM and we had what was called then PROFS - the Professional Office System. I didn’t know it at the time but that was perhaps my beginning interest in blogging. As I learn more and more about Blogging.. and Wordpress.. and my other passion - Ephemera, I hope to be able to blog about it to my followers here on this blogsite. Stay with me for what I hope will be a fun adventure for us all.
